COMMANDMENT, THE WRITTEN COMMANDS
Proverbs 13:13
Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed, but he that feareth the Commandment shall be rewarded. AKJV
Another way to reading today's verse is to say, Whoso devotes himself to money shall be destroyed. This is because of what Luke 16:13 writes, "No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will hold to the one and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon".
The reason anyone would despise the word of God, maybe not to read or careful to observe what's therein is his love and devotion to money. Trust in the power of money and its ability to solve problems answering all things is actually what God calls poverty. Or say in 21st century terms, he has 666 code written on his forehead or right hand.
See, the opposite of God is not the devil but money.
Gen 25:34 tells us of how Esau finally turned godless, became somebody who thought less on God, posting God latter. The word reads, "Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentils, and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way, thus Esau despised his birthright."
Esau took four giants steps backwards on his destiny and his life was lost irrecoverable, he outrightly lost the birthright. He ate, drank, rose up and left! This wise, Esau belittled the grace of God, grace of being called the elder brother. Why did Esau despise his birthright? What actually went wrong? Secondly, what formed the commandments are commands taken to action, words of commands of God acted promptly on. So in a way and interchangeably, the two are same. When the words, of God is accorded the right devotion, commandments would be formed. This formation itself is the reward anyone gets for his obedience. It took God over 2,000 years compilation to write us the Ten Commandments having watched us mankind lived, dealing with themselves.
