THE CALLING
"...This man is my chosen instrument to proclaim my name to the Gentiles and their kings and to the people of Israel. I will show him how much he must suffer for my name.” Acts 9:15/6
Sometimes in 2003, while studying at the School of Missions, during one of my devotions with much fastings and prayer, the word of the Lord came to me in that verse of the Scripture. And having learned to accept God's will without questioning, I mean, I don't ask questions nor try to question if it was God speaking or His adversary, I ordinarily hoped for the worse, trusting God.
What bided my heart and attention so much was, "...will show him how much he must SUFFER for my name." Surprisingly, this is what has kept my heart steady all through till now. And His grace is sufficient for me.
SUFFERING is a part of life and should not be refuted. We must suffer a while and then be settled – 1 Peter 5:10. Poverty, lack, want and sickness are NOT in any way listed in the Christian suffering. And no child of God should ever be found on their lists. In fact, the beloved of King Solomon (SOS 1:5-6 MSG) had a tanned skin because her sufferings. Her brothers left her to care for the flock while they while around. The sun and rain had their deals on the beloved of the King and in no time had her skin tanned. In the end, she was more beautiful and quintessential for the king, more fitting for the palace.
This is where many miss it: the CONCEPT of SUFFERING is the same, but the DURATION may differ from person to person depending on your calling. That does not make anybody inferior nor more superior. Everybody has to go through suffering, if they'd be qualified as the Lord's beloved. And I have been through many troubles, borne many griefs, carried burdens for the Lord while men slept.... I'm not permitted to say more, to the glory of the Lord.
The truth is, Christ is our common ground. We are to be like Jesus, the Man who died for all of us, not like our next, not even like our shepherds or pastors. We may watch others to see how corrected we're living but they're not our yardstick, never our Standard. Forming a monotonous body is not the Lord's pride but a diversified and dignified body and rich in the knowledge of the LORD. In summary, it is the Lord's determination that we'll firstly be like Christ through to being our TRUE selves.
