DAY 26 - COVERING AND BEING COVERED
Proverbs 26:26
Whose hatred is covered by deceit, his wickedness shall be shown before the whole congregation. KJV
The act of covering up against public view started out with Adam in Eden when he and his wife sewed fig leaves to cover up their nakedness which was already exposed to their selves, a thing that hid them from God. Gen 3:7-9 showed that after the fall, they were still responsive to God, could still hear and see spiritual things. It then meant that things which make anyone acceptable before God is not the seeing and hearing gifts but a perfect heart of obedience.
Shortly after the fall, Cain was born. He seemed to have been the seed or say, proceed of their fall. This Cain sought tirelessly to end his brother's life whom he hated but concealed it, lurking an opportunity to destroy Abel's righteous living. Cain didn't hate Abel first, he hated God first and everything that pertained to God. All the while, Cain concealed his hate, covering with deceit until finally he got an opportunity to lead Abel out to an unusual, unknown, strange place, away from God's keep to kill him. And when God asked him about Abel his brother, he retorted, "Am I the One keeping him? I should ask you Sir!"
Cain killed and concealed his brother's blood in the ground. Even righteous Abel too shouldn't have died like chicken had he heed the warnings sent by God. Abel took things too simple. Of course, he had a clean heart toward his neighbor and brother who didn't have same toward him. Abel had thought to himself, "But Cain is my brother nah, can he kill me? Would Cain kill me his own brother? We're padi you know. I think he likes me well. In fact, he's establishing a cattle ranch on his farm and we'll build it together. Ooh no, Cain just can't. Hmm yes, I know he's not that good but to kill me, no he can't!" Abel died because he took life too simple.
Another instance is Saul, the first king in Israel. After David killed Goliath in that forty-day challenge, he became a hero. Women stated composing songs in David's name and honour, 1Sam 18:7-8. But when Saul heard their debut, he became angry, very displeased and wanted to end David's life, same he should have protected. David had saved Israel from the daily embarrassment and humiliations of Goliath who spoke derogatorily against the God of Israel, defying His presence. And just shortly after that conquest, Saul hated David so much that he diverted and committed all the kingdom resources to doing ending the life of "the man after God's heart". Saul was such a hopeless, useless leader that led no one.
Saul the king lost something cogent he never realized back for the rest of kingship. What was it? Oh get a copy of today's mp3 recording, download and take a listen. It's 10mins.
